The main thing I noticed when I begun to play Call of Duty 4 again was that nearly all of the servers had the same settings in place: no kill cam, kick/ban for using Last Stand or Martyrdom perks. At first I thought to myself “what’s wrong with playing this game the way it was intended?”. Well, after two days I can now say that I see where these guys are coming from, let me elaborate:

Kill cam
Those who have played World of War with me on the Xbox 360 will know that I absolutely hate this feature. It shows your guy’s final moments through the POV of your killer. It’s annoying because no, you don’t want to watch yourself getting killed. Also, chances are you’re already pissed off at this point so watching this is just rubbing it in your face.

On the plus side, it does reveal your enemies camping position, but it’s a tall price to pay for watching yourself die again, and again, and again… Get me?

Martyrdom and Last stand
Without a doubt the worst perks in the game, which I am refusing to use myself. Picture this if you will, you’ve just killed a guy, now it’s time to move on and then BANG you’re watching your own kill cam. Some little bastard has just planted a bullet in the back of your head or has blown up. Why the hell should anyone get a second go? You’re going to respawn 5 seconds later anyway!

It’s been two years since I last played this grenade spam-fest on the PC and now I make my triumphant return, annihilating all of those in sight, and striking fear into the toughest foes at just the mere sight of my screen name. Well not quite… I’ve played a couple of hours of this tonight, here’s a small list of my observations and thoughts:

1. 75% of players are reliant on grenades to actually kill somebody.
2. You feel you’re doing so well until some bastard shoots you from a nook you never thought to check… for the 500th time.
3. It really should be Gun > Knife. If I’m letting rip into someone’s guts with an M249 at close range I expect it to have the same effect as its real life counterpart – administer a whole world of pain. How someone is able to stab you while this is happening is beyond me.
4. Smaller games are better… I think this has something to do with dying less.
5. All kills should be accompanied with “Fucking have it, bitch”.
6. HELICOPTER, GET INDOORS!
7. Haha, suck my airstrike!

I think that’s about it, oh yeah, and the best retort I heard all evening? “Lick my hooker’s penis.”

It’s not been a really hot day but my room is boiling right now and there’s not a thing I can do about it! I’ve had to close my windows because my Mother is currently burning the wood from our cellar that got wrecked from the flood last month.

It’s tempting to open my windows, but the smoke is blowing in the direction of my room so it’ll stink the place up in no time!

Gah!

This is it!

No job for me, that is all.

… well not quite, but it could be. Tomorrow I have my interview for the Service Desk Analyst position in my place of work. It should go ok since two people on the panel I see everyday anyway. I worried, regardless.

I’ve always had a problem with interviews, I see them worse than what they really are. Like a lot of people on this planet, I fecking hate interviews! I get extremely nervous and find myself shaking and sweating like a pig. I draw blanks on stupid answers, the gem on one of my last interviews was a) forgetting what the company actually did and b) what the company name stands for. Needless to say, I work for this company now on a temporary basis and the answer to these questions has been burnt into my mind.

I should be ok in the sense that I’ve done the job on a test trial already and did reasonably ok at it… not brilliant… but ok.

How will I do? We’ll see, but I’m almost certain my 100% fail rate on Interviews will continue. Am I being negative, or realistic? You decide!

I have finally cleared my Credit Card bill and have ordered the ESP SC-607B! Alongside this I have also ordered a Line6 PodXT, this will allow mess around with tones and effects. It will also connect directly into my PC allowing me to record at a reasonably good quality, so no more placing a mic in front of my amp and hoping I get good results.

My little guitar operation didn’t end well. I went to re-wire it once again as per the previous blog entry on this subject and now it just won’t work. I’m probably going to give it another stab at a later when I don’t feel so demoralised about the whole thing.
