The specs

Just thought I’d share the specs of the new system I’m hoping to build soon (assuming the bank sort themselves out!)
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3.2 GHz Socket AM3 8MB Cache
ASUS M4A79T Deluxe 790FX Socket AM3 DDR3 8 channel audio ATX
OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz/PC3-10666 Gold Dual Channel
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024MB GDDR5
LG GH22NS50 22x SATA DVD&RW Dual Layer & RAM Black Bare Drive
Corsair 1000W HX PSU
Antec 1200 Twelve Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case – Black
Zalman CNPS10X Extreme
antec_1200 Hopefully when it’s up and running it’ll be a nice little system and will compliment my copy of Windows 7 nicely! It’s worth noting that the specs are devoid of hard drives, this is because I will be moving my 750GB/1TB hard drives over from my existing PC.
There’s room for improvement though, I opted not to go with a dedicated soundcard as the onboard audio will be sufficient for my needs at this movement in time. I’ve also gone for a good old fashioned DVD drive instead of Bluray. This is due to not owning any Blurays and not seeing that changing anytime soon due to the Bluray movie pricing! Besides a £16 DVD drive will do for now.
… Also I didn’t want to jack up the price of the PC. Hehe.
While my credit card woes continue, I have started ordering individual parts via Debit. I currently have the Zalman heatsink and fan, which is bloody huge and I am confident will do the job nicely. I have just ordered the Corsair 1000w power supply too.

Crisis averted… kind of.

Mum went into town today and popped into my bank to see if they had my provisional. Fortunately the lady at the helpdesk had found it and was just putting it into an addressed envelope at the time. It turns out the card was never taken out of the photocopier and therefore never handed back to me. A bit weird really as I could’ve swore I did get it back, then again I was handed back my credit card at the same-ish time.
… on a bit of a downer, my Credit Card still doesn’t work with those god forsaken Bank Security forms. 1 week, 2 phone calls, a bank visit and this still isn’t sorted! >_<
I wanna order my new PC parts dammit!

I went down to the bank today to sort out the memorable word for my credit card. Unfortunately their system was down so they couldn’t reset it, instead the lady at the helpdesk took a photocopy of my Provisional Driving Licence, the credit card details, my chosen word and my mobile number. It’s good that I’m at least on the path to sorting out my Credit Card woes.
My new problem is my Provisional Driving Licence has now gone walkies. I really don’t know where it’s gone, its either dropped out of my pocket at some point when I pulled my phone or wallet out of my pocket or there is the slight possibility it may still be at the bank. I’m going to get a call from the bank on Monday so I’ll ask that, failing that I’m going to have to ring around to ask if its been handed in with the taxi firm I used today or Tesco.
Grr.

Over the past few weeks I have been gradually speccing up a new gaming rig for myself. I have been carefully choosing parts that are compatible with each other so I’ve done quite a bit of research. I finally went to place my order for the parts and encountered some credit card problems, “no biggy” I thought. I’ll ring the credit card company the following evening. I came home tonight to find that the bank have been trying to get hold of me due to a possible fraud attempt on my card. Anyway, I’ve called them back and it’s kind of sorted out – I just need to go down my local branch over the week.
Thank feck the order didn’t go through as stores specialising in PC components are now stocking ATI’s Radeon 5800 series graphics cards, which are coming out starting from next week. I’d previously chosen two Radeon 4890′s which have set up in a Crossfire configuration. Granted, the 5870 is a little cheaper than 2x 4890s but it’ll save me money in the long run as I’ll now not need to replace one or both of them a year down the line.
Also, the main selling point for me is the DirectX 11 support as I want to get the most out of Aliens Vs Predator when it comes out next year. I freakin’ love Aliens… and Predator. ^_^

It’s all over :(

For the past week I’ve been on annual leave from work, which is something I’ve needed for quite a while what with things going nuts at work and me getting hit with illness on two separate occasions in the last few weeks.
The oddest part about my time off is I’ve had a semi-normal sleeping pattern throughout! Rather than going to be at around 5am and waking up at around midday or as late as 1 in the afternoon as I have done in the past I have instead managed to go to bed between 11:30-2am and have been waking up between 6:30 – 9-ish. Check the time stamp of this entry, I’m so happy and I feel better for it.
Too bad with work next week I’ll probably go back to my old ways, but we’ll see!
