Day 3: Steam’s five-day-long-one-day-only sale
Posted by PooJee @ 2:30 PM, Sunday, 29th November 2009
Another day of the sale and I’ve purchased even more games. Yesterday I got Resident Evil 5 for myself and another copy for a friend. I also got a copy of Borderlands too. I won’t be downloading the latter until 25th December as it’s a Christmas present from my Mother.
I’ve put a few hours into Batman Arkham Asylum so far, that game is awesome and well worth a play, even if you just download the demo! Definitely worth the £14.99 I paid, loving not having to shoot people and the silent take downs.

Dead Space for £7.49? Yes please!
Was planning on getting this one for the Xbox 360 but it was around £14, it was probably completely worth it but this price is even better! ^_^
Now just to find time to play all of these games, haha! Oh, and my ISP is going to kill me again!

Steam have got a five day long one-day only sale where all the offers are switched around on a daily basis. I’ve just nabbed myself a copy of Far Cry 2 (with downloadable content!) and Batman Arkham Asylum for the grand total of £24.98.
Hmm, I wonder what other games are going to be on offer tomorrow to make me part with even more moolah!

No matter what game I play online, whether it’s Call of Duty, Battlefield, Counter Strike, Team Fortress or even Left 4 Dead. The moment your team starts to do slightly badly, there’s always some muppet that takes it open him/herself to slag their team off for the entire remaining duration of the game. This was happening just now on Modern Warfare 2 and fortunately I was on the opposing team, but this guy was really laying into his team. Every five seconds I was reading cries of “TEAM YOU SUCK”, “TEAM YOU’RE SHIT”, “THIS TEAM IS FULL OF IDIOTS” and the like.
The funny part is if the team sucks, he’s not really any better. He makes up a part of the team and therefore should take part responsibility of their crapness. This guy did have 19 deaths to 10 kills so he was no pro gamer himself.
Oh the little things that amuse me.
PS: We owned them 5-0 on Capture The Flag. ^_^

Bloody hyper transport sync flood error again!
Posted by PooJee @ 1:06 AM, Friday, 27th November 2009
After thinking I rectified the issue on Wednesday, this problem has now reoccurred. I’ve done a little more reading and I’ve find out that one or more of the following may or may not resolve this issue.
- Ensuring the memory clockings are correct
- Adding a little more voltage to memory and CPU
- Clearing the CMOS
I thought I’d try doing one at a time, the first one may well be an issue as I’ve noticed my RAM is clocking in at 1067MHz (under ‘auto’ settings) on the BIOS whereas its intended speed is meant to be 1333Mhz. This has now been updated, and since this my machine has been running a little quicker.
There is also a possibility that my primary hard drive may be at the centre of this as I’ve already received a Windows 7 warning about bad sectors and I’ve had corruption on files such as winload.exe, ntsokrnl.exe and acpi.sys over the last few nights – all resulting in complete failure to boot.

Wow, just wow!

nuked
Just got back from a half an hour game of Modern Warfare 2 with no problems!
During my game there were two guys cheating, like really cheating. I saw one of the kill cams and there was no way they would’ve been able to see me from where they were shooting from, at one point one of them was 45 kills to 0 deaths. This is a nice shining example of the failure on Infinity Ward’s part for nerfing the Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer experience on the PC. If this was Call of Duty 4 we would’ve had the guy booted long ago, or Punkbuster would’ve sorted him out straight away. It’s a shame to see that VAC isn’t as pro-active on booting the cheaters as Punkbuster, but then again Punkbuster boots you even on a clean set up.
Oh well, there was one benefit of being in a game with these cheaters – one of them got the Tactical Nuke. The killstreak award that you achieve after racking up 25 kills. It didn’t quite work how I was expecting it to, you get a warning followed by what is kind of like a countdown. There’s no point to this of course as there’s nowhere in the map that will keep you safe! Once the nuke hits, everyone dies, this includes the person who activated it, his team EVERYBODY. It even shows up as a teamkill!
Also once the nuke hits, it’s declared a victory. Well you can hardly respawn and be running around absorbing a fatal dose of radiation… or can you?

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
It’s been almost two months and I have finally encountered the first major technical issue with my PC. It has restarted by itself on numerous occasions this evening and each time I restart I’m getting the error message ‘A hyper transport sync flood error occurred on last boot.’
At first it seemed to be rather random but became more of a problem when I started up Modern Warfare 2. I could be in the game for approximately two minutes before the machine restarts and gives this error.
I have done a bit of reading on this and it appears that there are a few factors that may contribute to this, one being that not enough power is being supplied to the RAM and power saving features may be hitting the processor. Now for the latter I really hadn’t thought about this as prior to installing Windows 7 I was using ASUS’s EPU software, but stopped because it wasn’t compatible with the new O/S.
Anyway I’ve checked through BIOS for a few settings, my DRAM voltages are set to ‘auto’, which is good. I did however, find that Cool ‘n’ Quiet is also running. This has now been disabled, the power used by my PC is now around 20 watts higher than it was but never mind, it’s no big deal.
I shall go off for a game of Modern Warfare 2 now to see how it holds up. Wish me luck!

From one illness to another *facepalm*

Now I’ve recovered from my infection I have a most delightful sore throat. At first it was funny yesterday because I had a husky voice but today it descended into random squeaks and muted words on top of that. To make it worse, it’s one of those sore throats where the throat itches causing you to cough more and therefore you’re gradually making it worse not better. FML.
Oh well, got my lemsip. It better be gone soon!

Throwing knife goodness
Posted by PooJee @ 4:10 AM, Tuesday, 17th November 2009
I think I’ve had my best payback kill in Modern Warfare 2 so far. I was out of ammo on my main weapon while defending the flag and two guys were approaching from the left. They both popped out at the same time, I wasted one of them with my Glock 18 and wounded the second. I also took a bit of a beating in the process. After this we both kept peering from behind our cover to see where each other were. I figured machine pistol wasn’t going to be accurate enough to kill this guy especially since he had a scoped rifle and the recoil of the gun meant it was going to spray all over the place. Desperate measures were required so I got my knife ready.
After a further 30 seconds we both left cover, I threw my knife at him and he shot me to death. A split second later I got a payback award – the throwing knife hit home.
I died, but it was for the greater good.
… the greater good.

I was off sick from work again this week due to a urinary tract infection. I’ve been prescribed a stronger course of antibiotics and even after four days of it I’m still being knocked for six by the little green bastards. I’m regularly feeling tired and if I do decide to lie down for half an hour or so I find myself out cold for a longer period than intended. At least I’m only on them until this Wednesday, hopefully they will stop me from getting a re-occurrence of the infection this time.
I went into work on Tuesday with this but the pain gradually got worse as the morning went off and I eventually had to ask if it was ok to go home from work, but coincidentally enough it was the day Modern Warfare 2 came out (I do have a copy btw) so cue all the comments about how I was rushing home to play it. *facepalm* I was in no mood to play by the time I got home, I had a phone appointment with the doctor at 1pm and had to wait until 3:20pm for a proper appointment so I spent most of the time in bed trying to sleep off the pain in the meantime!
