Welcome to my cellar (MUAHAHAHAHAHA!!!)

In my house we have a cellar and as the years have passed by its seen much less use. Once upon a time we used to store tinned food and bottled drinks down there as there was nowhere else to put them. Needless to say we’ve become more lazy and the dining room has paid for that. After much pressure we are now using the cellar for this purpose once again, mainly because I’m tired of tripping over boxes of cider and tins each day when grabbing my bag and coat for work!
FUN FACT NO.1 – My house is on a stream, which means there’s an open hole full of water down there. Back in July we had some heavy rain and due to some toolbox throwing rubbish into the stream it blocked which overloaded our pump. Within minutes the cellar was five foot under water.

Here is my cellar, this is where I take my victims… lol, well not quite. It’s pretty damn dark, damp and yeah those are the characteristics of the average cellar. In there corner is a knackered hoover we’ve put down there for storage until we have a chance to dispose of it properly.

This is the main part of the cellar we’ll be using. Under the stair case is a set of metal shelves and a table which hold paint, food, drink etc. We’ve started wondering whether the cellar was lived in at one point due to the fire place.

FOODS! … and drink. Yes, I have a lot of fizzy drinks. I’ve been gradually stocking up over the last few months. At least I won’t have to buy any more until well into the new year.

Here’s that hole of water I mentioned earlier. The pump is also brand new and was purchased with the insurance money we got from the July flooding. It works harder than the old pump, which must’ve been on its way out. The cellar is nowhere near as damp as it used to be. We should see a considerably reduced chance of flooding. Considering we’ve only seen two floods in the 23 years since we’ve been living here, I think we’re doing pretty damn well already!
FUN FACT NO.2 – The water is pretty pure, if anything happens to the water pipes in my house we’ve still got a source of water. Unfortunately our neighbours aren’t so lucky, while we get fresh stream water, they get sewage if they flood… which happens more frequently for them than us.
