What have I been playing? – 8th Feb – 14th Feb ’10

Yup, the laziness bug hit again. I was meant to do one of these last week but it never happened! Anyway here it goes…
Fallout 3
I’ve had a downloaded copy of this on my hard drive for some time and I decided to re-install it. I haven’t played this since November 2008 because I fell out with the VATS system. I seem to be doing a lot better this time around, I can lock pick now, I’m landing critical hits on enemies more frequently now and generally I’ve progressed a lot further. Last time I found myself wondering around Washington DC waaaaay too early into the game meaning that motivation drained after the 500th failed encounter with a Super Mutant or two.
Since I’m doing better now I have bought a copy of the Game of The Year edition from Amazon for £18.99 (not bad!)
Good points? I’m playing the good citizen at the moment, so I’m getting a lot of praise from Threedog on the radio. I’ve also managed to defuse the bomb in Megaton. Mr Blake wasted Sheriff Simms before I got the chance last time, oh I’ve also killed Mr Blake. Yay!
Bad points? Decided to deal with the fire ant problem in Grayditch and Marigold. They’re bloody bastards!
Bioshock 2
I’ve been playing this quite a bit since it was released on Tuesday. I’m finding it pretty fun so far, it’s nice to play as a Big Daddy but the problem is you don’t seem to be as powerful as the ones you encountered during the first game. It’s also nice to see that there’s considerably less backtracking in comparison to the original and while some people hate the fact the game is now divided into levels, I quite like it!
I haven’t had a chance to try the multiplayer, but I’m sure I’ll give it a go in the coming weeks.
Good points? I love my drill.
Bad points? It runs out of fuel too quickly and constantly having to protect the Little Sisters while they harvest Adam from corpses is starting to become tiresome.
Aliens Vs Predator Demo
The demo is always a way for the developers to sell the game to the customer. Unfortunately the AVP demo has got to be one of the worst I’ve played so far.
Here’s what I don’t like about the demo so far:
- No dedicated servers (the full game will support these) so each time you kill someone there’s a high probability they will ragequit. This is a pain in the ass considering they haven’t incorporated Infinity Ward’s host migration system.
- A 2 Predator limit? The hell?
- 8 people must be in the game for it to start.
- A dull, dull, dull, dull single map.
- Deathmatch only? This is terrible, I don’t even like deathmatch in the usual shoot ‘em-ups on the best of days!
Despite the above flaws one you get into the game it’s pretty cool. As the alien you are the ultimate killing machine wasting one play before swiftly moving to the next. As the marine you jump easily as the motion tracker bleeps away showing up enemy movement from all around. I only played as the Predator once but it seems a bit ogf a weak class, but this could be because of the way I was playing.
I’ve still got the full version on order though!
Good points? Using the Pulse Rifle is always a joy.
Bad points? Ha, I think these are covered above.
