I’ve been all about Aliens Vs Predator this week, read on…
Yup, I’ve completed all three campaigns. It took me a little longer than suggested by others, I think I took around 3/3 and a half hours for most of the campaigns. The Alien and Predator campaigns were definitely the shortest.
All in all, I think the Predator campaign was most satisfying (jumping unsuspecting enemies, what’s not to like?), the Marine campaign was more interesting (arriving after hell was let loose) and the Alien campaign had the best ending (Youtube it!).
I’m not sure whether I’m going to go back and play the game on Hard and Nightmare difficulties because at certain points during Normal difficulty the AI was just… exceptionally cheap! For example, combat androids can knock a fair bit of health out of with their oh-so-accurate aim AFTER their goddamn heads have been blown off!
The game’s weapons were good, I especially liked the Combistick because it’s the one and only weapon in the Predator’s arsenal that doesn’t uncloak you on use. The Pulse Rifle was naturally the first choice for the marine, and you’re armed with one for majority of the campaign. The shotgun was pretty nice too what with being double-barrelled to boot. The sniper rifle worked rather nicely, but as a Predator player in multiplayer (sometimes!) I don’t agree with the rifle having the ability to spot cloaked Predators – especially when if you follow the storyline of the game, the Marines/Combat Androids haven’t encountered the Predators before.
The Smart Gun was a huge disappointment, it’s not very powerful, it eats ammo like sweeties and most annoyingly of all has had its sound changed! This is very important because it hindered my ability to feel like a badass while using it. It sounds too much like a minigun now.
When I let rip with the Smart Gun, I expect to feel just like Vasquez from the movie. Example:
