This week’s Left 4 Dead 2 Mutation is campaign-based and involves the four survivors tossing aside their guns in favour of chainsaws with infinite juice. Is it any good?

Basically… no. The new mutation is actually weak in comparison to the Realism Versus and Last Gnome on Earth Mutations. It’s an idea that sounds great on paper but the novelty wears off really quickly. Sure, you can shred X number of zombies with chainsaws but in the end it gets really boring as there’s no variation in how you’re taking them out. At least when you’re using a gun, sometimes you take their head off, other times you can take their arms off or maybe, just maybe, you can create a perfectly circular hole in the middle of their face that allows you to see your teammate on the other side.

The major flaw with the mode is half the time it ends up like the Chainsaw scene in Dawn of The Dead (2004) where you’re the old man plowing into the blonde hottie with a Chainsaw by accident or vice versa.

Also, they opted to leave Boomers in this mode. WTF Mon?

On the plus side though, I guess it gives you many opportunities to accidentally fall into Rochelle with a revving chainsaw. Not that you couldn’t accidentally shoot her in the face in the first place. *Walks off whistling*
