Alongside this I have also ordered a Line6 PodXT, this will allow mess around with tones and effects. It will also connect directly into my PC allowing me to record at a reasonably good quality, so no more placing a mic in front of my amp and hoping I get good results.

My little guitar operation didn’t end well. I went to re-wire it once again as per the previous blog entry on this subject and now it just won’t work. I’m probably going to give it another stab at a later when I don’t feel so demoralised about the whole thing.

It’s not all bad though. I’m planning on buying a new guitar. It’s gonna set me back a bit but I feel it’s going to be worth it. I intend on buying an LTD SC-607B. It’s the signature model of Stef Carpenter from the Deftones.

Cool stuff the guitar features includes:

7-string… The moment I got my last 7-string I couldn’t play a 6-string again, I like the feel of the bigger neck!
Mahogony body and Active EMG 81-7 pickups (Good sound out of the box!)
Baritone scale. The next is that little bit longer, which means more tension on the strings and thus makes it an ideal guitar to downtune on, which I do a lot.
Locking Tuners. Was going to get some of these for my other guitar, I like the idea of it NOT going out of tune while playing.

Here’s what it looks like:

SC-607B

The RRP is £1049, but I’ve managed to find a shop selling it for £860.

The bridge pickup sounded awesome, too bad I managed to accidentally read the wrong diagram. I wired up my bridge pickup to the instructions of the neck pickup. At first I shrugged it off and stupidly continued wiring the other way round only to find that when I switched on my amp it sounded like it was underwater. Much to my dismay I undid everything and wired it to the diagram’s specifications, after three quarters of an hour everything is now where it should be, it should work fine now, yes? WRONG!

Only two positions on the five-way pickup selector actually work now. One is too trebly and the other seems to be devoid of the beautiful tone I experienced earlier. Neither I would use. Ever! I have checked the wiring and it all appears to be fine, but what do I know? I’m a newbie to this! Which is why I’m going to call it a night, tomorrow evening I intend on undoing the wiring to see if I can get it working how it should. In the meantime I will do my research and see if I can find any info from other people who may have had the same problem.

But if it doesn’t work? It’s getting incredibly tempting to just say “fuck it, I’ll buy a new one!” but I really don’t want to this, which is why I’m seriously considering just wiring the one pickup so I can have my beloved chosen position back. It sounds stupid but I’ve had this guitar for three years and I’ve never used anything besides this particular position and I don’t intend to change now!

I finally decided last week to replace the stock pickups on my Ibanez RG7321. After a hell of a struggle on Thursday night trying to install the Blaze Customs that should’ve “just slot in” I left it until today to do the rest. At the moment I have successfully installed the bridge pickup and it sounds crisp and meaty in comparison to the ones I yanked out – I’m pleased.

Now all I need to do is wire up the neck pickup and hope that I don’t undo all of my good work…
